Lumpen Station\u00a0was founded in 2019 as the sonic extension of\u00a0espace libre visarte Biel\/Bienne<\/em>, with the intention of exploring radio broadcasting as an expanded exhibition format within contemporary art. Since 2021, the platform has evolved into a redesigned digital space that functions both as a growing archive and as a freely accessible site dedicated to experimental sonic practices.<\/p>\n\n

Now operating as an online radio art space, Lumpen Station develops its curatorial program through invitations, intervening across both institutional art venues and non-traditional, site-responsive contexts. Alongside its digital presence, the Lumpen Station team produces\u00a0site-specific installations, conceived as laboratories for artists and immersive spaces for collective listening. This dual approach\u2014balancing embodied presence and remote production\u2014reflects a curatorial strategy grounded in connectivity across all Swiss regions and international networks.<\/p>\n\n

Lumpen Station\u2019s exhibitions emerge at the intersection of\u00a0digital dissemination\u00a0and the\u00a0hybridization of artistic practices. Sound works are often created in response to curatorial concepts or thematic prompts, resulting in multiple contributions developed either live or remotely. The platform emphasizes\u00a0spoken word, experimental narrative, and conceptual sound, organizing these contributions into digital \u201crooms\u201d\u2014a metaphorical architecture that positions\u00a0Lumpenstation.art<\/em>\u00a0as a spatialized, curatorial entity. Each work is given its own dedicated page or \u201cwall,\u201d granting artists an individualized presence within the platform\u2019s collective framework.<\/p>\n\n

All content is initially broadcast live, then archived and distributed as podcasts\u2014extending the work\u2019s visibility across time and space. In parallel, Lumpen Station regularly collaborates with\u00a0museums, art spaces, and festivals, often constructing mobile studios or installations to host and generate site-specific content. These collaborations typically focus on\u00a0conversations, interviews, and shared reflections on artistic reception. Lumpen Station prioritizes\u00a0active, discursive partnerships\u00a0and does not position itself merely as a broadcasting service.<\/p>\n\n

Since 2021, the platform has been co-directed by\u00a0Mathilde and Andrea Marioni, who together shape its editorial direction, oversee original productions, and cultivate partnerships, including the hosting and promotion of externally produced content through an \u201cAssociates\u201d program.<\/p>\n\n

Through these activities, Lumpen Station seeks to\u00a0mutualize\u00a0the potential of radio and digital tools, embedding itself in a\u00a0continuous process of experimental sound production and reception. Lumpen station works with several artists on a temporary basis linked with specific projects. There are also associated curators distributing sound exhibitions on our website. Some artists are also in digital residency producing at least three soundworks around a topic or research field. The room Music does the talking host formats in where artist are invited to share the relation with music.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n
